Our very own Lanise Hayes was recently quoted in the Law Times editorial “Words versus actions”.
The piece is about the federal bill C-58, An Act to amend the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. Concerns have been raised about how this bill will detrimentally affect access to information for First Nations.
Lanise is quoted: “At times, Canada has responded to access requests by throwing in massive amounts of questionable documents, leaving it for the Indigenous applicant to swim through and find the relevant information.”
