We are so excited to share that Janice Payne has been awarded the 2021 Law Society Medal for her incredible contribution to the legal profession.
Each year, the Law Society of Ontario awards the Law Society Medal to selected lawyers who have made a significant contribution to the profession. The award is given for outstanding service within the profession.
Janice was called to the Bar in 1976, and has been a leader in the legal profession, her firm and the community for 45 years. She was one of the first women in private practice in Ottawa and continues to be an exemplary role model and mentor to the many lawyers who have followed her in and outside our firm. She has grown her employment law practice over the years to the point that she is widely recognized as one of the top lawyers in Canada in her field. Many of Janice’s clients are individuals who come to her at a vulnerable point in their lives. A tireless, fierce and loyal advocate, she stands up for them, gives them a voice and is well-known for the results that she is able to achieve for them. Janice was the first female articling student, lawyer and partner at Nelligan Law. Today, we are proud to say that half of our partners and all of our management team are women, due in no small part to her example.
