David Contant is a partner at Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP and is certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Civil Litigation.

David is a passionate advocate for his clients working with both individuals and companies to resolve a broad range of challenging employment law, personal injury and commercial litigation problems. David prides himself on his practical approach to files, and his ability to work creatively with other counsel to resolve matters.  His focus is on cutting the Gordian Knot and getting the job done as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.

David is an experienced litigator, having appeared before various courts and tribunals in Ontario, including the Licence Appeal Tribunal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, and the Ontario Court of Appeal.

David has helped countless individuals and companies deal with a broad range of challenging matters including wrongful dismissal and constructive dismissal claims, injunctions, motor vehicle accidents, traumatic brain injuries, disability insurance claims, and human rights proceedings.

He also has significant experience in commercial disputes, including real property litigation, contract disputes, and defamation. David’s commercial litigation experience extends to construction law matters where he has acted on behalf of owners, general contractors, and subcontractors.

David is currently the Director of Student Programming for the firm, responsible for coordinating the articling student program and overseeing the work of the students. In this role, David is responsible for mentoring and training our articling students as they develop their legal skills.

Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his family, particularly outdoors.
