David Contant is a partner at Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP, and is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Civil Litigation. David’s practice is focused on commercial litigation, employment law, and personal injury litigation. Prior to joining the firm, David practised with a leading regional law firm in Mississauga, as well as with a litigation boutique in Northern Ontario.

Throughout his career, David has represented individuals and insurers on a broad range of matters, including motor vehicle accidents, occupier’s liability, employment matters, and negligence. He also has significant experience in commercial disputes, including real property litigation, contract disputes, intellectual property matters, collections, and defamation. David’s commercial litigation experience extends to construction law matters where he has acted on behalf of owners, general contractors, and subcontractors.
David has appeared before various courts and tribunals in Ontario, including the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, and the Ontario Court of Appeal.
David is currently the Director of Student Programming for the firm, responsible for coordinating the articling student program and overseeing the work of the students.
David is a passionate advocate for his clients, priding himself on his practical approach to files, and his ability to work creatively with other counsel to resolve matters.
Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his family, particularly outdoors.
