Eden C. Maher is an estate planning and estate administration lawyer at Nelligan O’Brien Payne.

She advises clients on the use of Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other mechanisms to transition their wealth during their lifetime and upon their passing. She also advises executors and attorneys for property and personal care (also called “POA”s) on their legal entitlements, powers, and duties.

Prior to joining Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP, Eden practiced estate litigation at a large regional firm in south-eastern Ontario, advocating for clients in cases involving challenges to the validity of Wills, incapacity and undue influence, passing of executors’ and POAs’ accounts, breaches of fiduciary duty, dependant’s support, and more. The benefit of Eden’s estate litigation background is that she can readily identify and help clients avoid estate planning and estate administration pitfalls that all too often result in litigation among beneficiaries, executors, powers of attorney, and families.

Eden is thorough and diligent in her approach to estate planning and administration. On the estate planning side, she works closely with clients to help design and implement an estate plan that fits clients’ financial, legal, and relational circumstances. On the estate administration side, Eden works closely with executors and POAs explaining and advising on the many practical and legal decisions they must make.

Eden is an affiliate member of STEP – the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners, a sought-after designation in the trusts and estates field. She regularly writes and speaks on estate related topics of interest to lawyers and clients.

When not at the office, Eden enjoys spending time with her partner including jogging, biking, and visiting the many attractions Ottawa has to offer.
