Kris Ade is an associate lawyer at Nelligan Law, and a member of our Family Law and Estates Law groups. Kris is passionate about advocacy – on behalf of others and in support of important causes and issues – and is passionate about helping people.

These passions drew him to the practice of family and estates law: helping people, and advocating on their behalf, during particularly challenging periods in their lives. And he brings these passions to the practice of law following nearly 15 years of experience in challenging and diverse work environments – from Parliament Hill and City Hall in Ottawa, commercial kitchens in Toronto and Winnipeg, and classrooms in Winnipeg and around the world.

During his time in law school, Kris competed in and was named top advocate and top team at the school’s First-Year Moot Competition. He was selected for both the Legal Writing Academy’s Writing Leadership Program and the Dean’s Research and Writing Fellowship. And he was employed by the University as teaching assistant in Public and Constitutional Law.

Prior to law school, he spent several years working as a professional chef, where he honed his skills as a manager and deepened his appreciation for sustainability and supporting local producers and artisans. As a student of culinary arts, Kris was awarded two significant merit-based scholarships, competed in both the provincial and national Skills Canada culinary competitions, and earned his class’ Gold Medal upon graduation.

Kris has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to put his passion for advocacy to work during his time as a political staffer in both Winnipeg and Ottawa, as an aide to a Member of Parliament, Minister of the Crown, and Leader of the Official Opposition.

While pursuing his undergraduate studies in political science at the University of Winnipeg, Kris developed and implemented an innovative school-wide debate and speech program at a local high school, teaching over 140 students. And, as an internationally recognized debate coach and judge, he also spent nearly a decade mentoring Canadian and international students in speech and debate and has represented Canada as an official adjudicator at World Schools Debating Championships in Singapore, Peru, Germany, Wales, Korea, United States, Greece and Qatar.
