Sarah Clowater is an associate lawyer at Nelligan O’Brien Payne, and a member of our Employment Law Group.
Sarah works on a range of employment files, including matters related to wrongful dismissal and human rights issues, and has appeared before Ontario’s Small Claims Court and the Human Rights Tribunal.
Originally from New Brunswick, Sarah completed her law degree at the University of Ottawa, where she won the Hugh G. Memorial Prize, awarded to the student with the highest mark in family law, and participated in competitive mooting. She also worked as a summer student and completed her articles at Nelligan O’Brien Payne.
Sarah is passionate about helping people through difficult times in their lives and working collaboratively to find a resolution to their problem. She appreciates that the legal landscape is often complex and completely foreign for many people, and enjoys assisting her clients in navigating through this process to find a satisfactory conclusion. The employment relationship is often characterized by an imbalance of power, so through her work Sarah strives to ensure her clients have access to the rights to which they are entitled.
Sarah is personable, empathetic, and works tirelessly for her clients. She does everything in her power to assist them. Sarah takes her work very seriously, but not herself, preferring to maintain a healthy sense of humour.
Outside of the office, Sarah loves staying active. She rides her bike to work most of the year and enjoys running and figure skating. She is also passionate about travel, especially to places where she can lace up her boots and go on a challenging hike. When not being active, she can be found cuddling with her beloved cat, Phoebe.
