ADR Chambers Appointed Authorized Naming Authority

Players in the construction industry are anxiously awaiting further changes to Ontario’s new Construction Act intended to fast-track payment for construction projects and help ensure swift resolution of payment disputes.

As a component of this process, the province is one step closer to implementing mandatory

On October 1, 2019, a prompt payment system and mandatory adjudication for certain disputes are expected to come into force.

adjudication for certain disputes, having appointed ADR Chambers to serve as the Authorized Naming Authority (the “ANA”).

According to a report in the Daily Commercial News, Ontario Attorney General Doug Downey and Mr. Allan Stitt, President of ADR Chambers are both confident that adjudication will be able to launch on October 1, 2019 as planned.

Ontario’s Bill 142 received royal assent on December 12, 2017 and ushered in broad reforms to the Construction Lien Act (now the Construction Act). The first of those reforms came into force on July 1, 2018.

On October 1, 2019, a prompt payment system and mandatory adjudication for certain disputes are expected to come into force.
