For more than six decades, we’ve evolved alongside our clients—adapting and delivering trusted legal guidance with care.
Nelligan Law began in Ottawa in 1963 as a small group of dedicated lawyers committed to helping individuals and businesses navigate legal challenges. Among our founders were John Nelligan, known as Ottawa’s Perry Mason for his sharp courtroom skills and unwavering civility, and Denis Power, whose expertise and leadership helped shape the firm before his appointment to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Their vision of integrity and excellence set the foundation for everything we do today.
As our firm grew, so did the scope of our work. We expanded our practice areas to meet the needs of a diverse and changing population, taking on increasingly complex and challenging cases. Over the years, we have represented clients in significant matters, including multiple major class actions, while continuing to provide practical advice and strong advocacy for individuals, families, and businesses across Eastern Ontario.
Our growth has always been rooted in community. From supporting local initiatives to contributing to charitable causes, we have remained committed to giving back to the region that shaped us.
Our history reflects a willingness to adapt and innovate. In 2019, we refreshed our identity from Nelligan O’Brien Payne to Nelligan Law, signaling a modern approach while honoring our roots. In recent years, we’ve continued to refine our brand and services to reflect professionalism, warmth, and innovation—while staying ahead of emerging trends and challenges in the legal landscape.
Today, Nelligan Law is proud to combine decades of experience with a forward-thinking mindset. While much has changed since 1963, our commitment to serving clients with care and expertise remains the foundation of everything we do. As we look to the future, we continue to lead in complex litigation, embrace new technologies, and uphold the values that have guided us for more than sixty years.
