We are seeking a full-time Real Estate Law Clerk for a maternity leave replacement with over two years of experience in real estate law. The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, be a self-starter, and be enthusiastic about this area of practice.
What you’ll do
You will be responsible for the day-to-day and general responsibilities of processing all real estate transactions from beginning to end, including the preparation of all documentation and correspondence, including:
- Completing real estate transactions from beginning to end, including residential purchases and sales, commercial purchases and sales, power of sales and mortgages, and the documentation required.
- Preparing all documents, including correspondence with utility companies and municipalities; drafting Transfers, mortgages, discharges, land transfer tax affidavits, title insurance applications and other related documents; and drafting reports, accounts and trust statements to clients and reports to mortgagees.
- Preparing other specific real estate documents as required, including Powers of Attorney, Assignments of Mortgage, Survivorship Applications, Transmission Applications, Deposits, Applications to Register Caution and Postponements of Mortgage.
What you’ll need
- Knowledge of real estate conveyancing and title issues, as well as zoning and building by-laws, restrictions and guidelines.
- Ability and knowledge necessary to assist solicitors in completing real estate transactions.
- Ability to work with and receive instructions from a large number of supervisors.
- Ability to set priorities and flexibility in managing changing priorities.
- Initiative in identifying potential problems and resolving them.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
- Basic knowledge of litigation, family, and commercial law as it relates to real estate.
- High stress tolerance.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of personalities, including financial institutions, municipalities, clients, and colleagues.
All work is performed in a hybrid environment, and overtime may be required as necessary.
