Debbie Bellinger, partner and head of the firm’s Real Estate and Development Practice Group, was recently interviewed for the April issue of The Ontario Construction Report. Debbie discusses the complexity of properties where there are multiple uses and the challenges they pose. “Not all the components come to substantial completion at the same time” she explains, which can be difficult to manage when there are one or more contractors and design consultants working with different owners who have individual titles for some elements and shared responsibility for others.

Debbie stresses the importance of compliance with the Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC); however, any small modification or change an owner may make to the rules can cause a domino effect of problems. That’s where a skilled construction lawyer comes in.

Debbie regularly visits the construction site to ensure standards are being met. “With site walk-throughs at the end of the projects, you see things you wouldn’t see at the end of a desk“, she says. Debbie’s hands-on, collaborative approach to working with clients is the best strategy to successfully completing complex projects.
