Hamish Mills-McEwan works for insurers on a wide range of litigation files and also helps injured plaintiffs seeking compensation.

Originally from the United Kingdom, Hamish completed his law degree at Queen’s University Faculty of Law, where he received award for achieving the highest standing in Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Principles of Financial Regulation, in addition to being the second-place runner-up in the 2017 Arnup Cup trial advocacy competition, and advancing to the 2017 Sopinka Cup trial advocacy competition.

Before joining Nelligan Law, Hamish articled at a well known regional full-service firm.  He then went on to practice plaintiff personal injury at a litigation boutique. Hamish has appeared before the Small Claims Court, the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and the License Appeal Tribunal.  Hamish has well-rounded trial, and tribunal advocacy experience.

Hamish is just as comfortable building compelling narratives and advocating for plaintiffs as he is mounting robust defences for insurers.  Hamish has a strong grasp of technology and deploys it effectively in his practice, both to dig deeper, and to attain successful outcomes quickly and efficiently.  Hamish thrives when working on complex liability issues, and when things get technical.  He has expanded his knowledge base into emerging legal fields topics, including autonomous vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems, and litigation involving cryptocurrency, and bitcoin.

Hamish co-hosts the podcast Civil Banter with Stanford Cummings, where they dive into all things civil litigation.

Outside of the office, Hamish likes driving on twisty roads, playing board games, reading about macroeconomics, and target shooting.
